Winston-Salem has a rich history of black accomplishments that many would not believe, or think were possible for a southern town during the Jim Crow Era. Exemplifying courage, business savvy and pride, the black citizens of Winston-Salem came together and formed successful businesses, good neighborhoods, great schools, medical services, social and religious institutions that provided services, economic opportunities, positive role models and pride to the black people of Winston-Salem...and made an indelible mark in the history of the city that still carries forward.
